The scope of works included the construction of 180m railcar assembly area with rail equipment, tracks, overhead cranes, and fit-out of offices, workshops and storage areas. FIRM successfully delivered the project in compliance with PTA specifications. This included the efficient management of the Entry into Services and Final Asset Acceptance process.

FIRM Construction completed a second project for the PTA in 2020. The Nowergup Rail Depot will accommodate additional railcars from mid-2022 as part of the WA government’s METRONET project. The project team delivered the scope of works safely within an operating site with daily railcar movements, limited shutdown windows, and in close consultation with PTA, depot management, and Transperth train operations.

FIRM Construction constructed Rio Tinto’s rail infrastructure services in Cape Lambert. This computerised flashbutt welding facility produces Australia’s longest rail strings (400m). Once these stock lengths are welded, 28 gantry cranes load them onto specialised rail carriages for distribution throughout Rio Tinto’s iron ore rail network.

FIRM Construction constructed Rio Tinto’s trip facilities including a locomotive warehouse and refuelling facilities; installation of eight diesel fuel tanks; pipe reticulation and bridge; oily water separator and tailing ponds. The project team constructed the pipe bridge over a live train line and within an operating mine site.
